17 things to do at your library in 2017

1. Attend story time
We offer storytime for children birth to age five at all three library locations. Check out our full schedule for dates and times - plus special puppet show weeks! We also have special STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Science) Storytimes for children ages 3-6 in Denton. The next one is Kitchen Science on February 9!

2. Improve your computer skills
Get help from today's technology experts - teenagers! We have a Teen Tech Mentor program designed to pair a tech-savvy teen with an older adult who needs some assistance. Or get one on one assistance from staff at our Computer Classes for Seniors!

3. Play mini-golf (and support the Friends)
Come in from the cold and join the fun as our Friends of the Library group turns the Central Library in Denton into a mini-golf course! Saturday, February 25 5-9pm (21+) and Sunday, February 26 (all ages), 10am-4pm.

4. Research Caroline County history
From old newspaper clippings and photos in our vertical file to our Maryland Room collection to the digitized Denton Journal, we have a variety of resources to help you learn more about Caroline County's past.

5. Find a job
Browse local job listings and job fair alerts. Apply for jobs online on our public computers. Fill out your job applications in our quiet computer lab space (Denton only). Get assistance with your job search from the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board (Federalsburg only).

6. Go to a free concert
Friday Nites in Caroline is a free concert series brought to you by the Caroline County Council of Arts in partnership with the Caroline County Public Library, Caroline County Recreation and Parks, and Caroline County Public Schools. Check out the 2017 line-up!

7. Talk about books in a book discussion group

8. Take a class with Gale Courses
Free, instructor-led online classes on a variety of topics. Work from anywhere you have internet access. Classes can even be downloaded for offline study.

9. Download a movie with Hoopla
Have you tried Hoopla yet? It's a streaming video/music/ebook service. You can download up to 8 titles per month. It's quick and easy!

10. Learn a new language with Rosetta Stone
The library now offers Rosetta Stone, the language learning software, for free! There are over 30 languages to choose from!

11. Scan documents for free
We have public photocopiers that can also scan to your email or a flash drive. There is no charge for the scanning service. Photocopies are $.25 per page.

12. Send a fax
You can send a fax at all three of our library locations. $1 per fax.

13. Study your family tree
The library has in-library access to Ancestry.com and anywhere access (with your library card) to Heritage Quest, which offers some of the same information as Ancestry.com. If your family has Caroline County roots, our Maryland room has a wealth of genealogical resources to help you in your search.

14. Dance with your kids
Bring your kids to a Family Dance Party!

15. Get your taxes done for free
AARP Tax Aide is designed for taxpayers of low or middle income with special attention to those aged 60 and older. Appointments are available at all three locations.

16. Get help finding your next favorite book/author
Our knowledgable staff can recommend a new book or author. Or you can explore on your own with Novelist Plus.

17. Access free wifi (inside or out!)
Our wifi is available any time, even if the library is closed!
